Being quarantined do not necessarily mean that one has contracted the virus, it simply means that the person who is being quarantined has decided to isolate themselves from others because they are suspected to have come in contact with an infected person and needs to observe if they are not exhibiting any symptoms and since the virus has become widespread, it may be recommended to stay indoors to avoid exposure to the virus. Here’s how to prepare for a coronavirus quarantine:

  1. Purchase Disinfectants: the first important thing to do is to purchase a reasonable amount of soap and alcohol-based cleaning products. All health personnel have agreed that washing the hands frequently is one of the most effective way to avoid contracting this deadly disease.  Make sure you wash hands frequently for at least 20 seconds especially after sneezing and before eating.
  2. Stock up Important Supplies: it is not recommended that you stock up your house with food that can lasts the neighborhood a whole year. All you need to do is make sure that you buy food and other important supplies like water and toilet paper that can last your family for a couple of weeks but remember to purchase more before they finish. Canned and frozen food items that can’t go bad easily is highly recommended. Also, remember to get your skincare needs and other hygienic products that your family might need.
  3. Medicines: while stocking up food and water, don’t forget to purchase certain over-the counter medications that can relieve pain, cold and fever as some of these medicines can help reduce early symptoms of the virus. Stock up your medicine cabinet with 30-90 days’ supply of medications that may get scarce in the advent of the pandemic.
  4. Work Remotely: since you may have to remain home for a while, put effective plans in place that can help you work successful from home. Make sure  you get all the necessary tools that would enable you remain productive.
  5. Be psychologically prepared: although pandemics are scary and can make people very worried; remember to keep your mental health in check. Don’t be overly obsessive with reading or listening to things about the crisis, instead stay focused on protecting yourself and keep your spirits up.

What to Do If You Think You Are Infected

If you suspect that you have contracted the virus, isolate yourself from others to avoid spreading the virus; then seek medical care as soon as possible. It is recommended that you call your healthcare provider so that necessary steps can be taken to transport you to a safe clinic where mild symptoms of the virus can be easily treated. You can also use a face mask if you have one before the medical personnel arrives.
